Khopesh Tutorial

Well here we go a quick little tutorial for making a Khopesh weapon for Thousand Sons. This could be used for really any weapon type and again this is simple and quick.

So here are the bits you will need or rather the ones I used for this tutorial. What we have here are first on the left a Chaos Terminator power weapon arm. Next is a sprue from the Tomb Kings Chariot box of Warhammer Fantasy. It is the bladed prow for the chariot.

Alright What I did was cut off the mace head from the weapon and the bladed prow from the sprue. Clippers or an Xacto blade both work equally well. As always be careful with sharp things. After that some minor light filing was done but depending how clean and straight your cut is that may not even be really necessary.

And here we have the finished product! A Khopesh Terminator weapon. This can work for Power Armor marines provided its not a power sword. It need an axe or mace type weapon to be based off of.

When I do eventually make one for my Sergeants and Librarian I will do another tutorial on that. Also I will be experimenting with chain swords to see if i can utilize those arms for a ccw (Close combat weapon) Khopesh for an assault or veteran squad for example.

Hope that helped. Until next time.

The 15th Legion strike force

For when anyone reads this they might wonder.. How will I play with my thousand sons army once its done? My answer to that would be multiple ways depending. The primary way is to use the regular Space Marine Codex and with a new one on the way i will use that primarily. However I will be using Grey Knights allies with it to represent the thousand sons terminator squad. First it allows me to model each terminator with a Khopesh. Secondly i can use them as the power weapons they are. Also since the terminator squad in grey knights can take the holocaust power i think it fits well into the whole theme of the Thousands Sons having psykers and sorcerers everywhere. So basically ill have a librarian HQ and a thousand sons terminator squad represented by fielding them as grey knight terminator allies. The huge shoulder pad guy will be the brother captain. and ill fill out the rest with whatever.

I could also use the chaos space marine codex and field them that way but I for the most part wont as I am also working on 41st millenium Thousand Sons in there blueness.

So that's pretty much how the list will work once i have an army made and such. Space Marines with grey knight termiantor allies led by a Librarian. I am not going to bother writing up a list using the current space marine codex as there is no way ill have an army done in time to use it. So once i get my hands on that codex ill write up a preliminary list and post it.

Coming soon a little tutorial on how I made my Khopesh power weapon.

For Prospero! For Magnus! For the Emperor! pt2

Alright Now for the terminator. I used unmodified Witch Hunter Tyrus Shoulderpads for the terminator so be prepared for huge shoulder pads.. but thats ok because shoulders are vulnerable.

Those are some honking shoulder pads! but thats ok I like it. Alright firstly the other termiantors that i will eventually make will not have as large shoulder pads.
I made that Khopesh with tomb king bits and chaos terminator power weapon arm. Ill post a tutorial on that soon.
I was going for a more old looking colored leather for the leather parts of the shoulder pads. I think the streaked look does that. On the back of his waist is a scroll. The shoulder pads have rune work on the center part done in black with a fine black pen. I thought it gave the terminator a more. mystical look since its the Thousand Sons.
The Shoulder pad leather parts and the chest plate are a nod to there future allegiance. The eye which is a symbol they used then and in the future and the leather is 3 to a side which go into the number 9 the favored number of Tzeentch.
So those are the two thousands sons I have so far. How did I paint them? Here is a run down:
primed the models black
Armor color - Mechrite red with a baal red wash over the entire model
Armor ribbing - bolt gun metal
Trim - brazen brass (or any brass or bronze color since i think they stopped that color) followed by shining gold.
Eyes - Snot green
Gems etc (like the eye on the chest plate)- Snot green and I will also being using enchanted blue for some.
Ranged Weapons- chaos black with bolt gun trim
Khopesh- scab red hand hold area, bolt gun pole and cable parts, the blade itself is Mithril silver, any adornments is done with the brass then gold like the trim
Leather parts - bestial brown followed by scab red.
Top knot - scab red with leviathan purple wash.
Purity seals - ultramarine blue and then enchanted blue on the wax part, bronzed flesh followed by bleached bone with skull white on top for the parchment part. I then tried to give the impression of runes written on the seals instead of the standard text to make it fit with the legion.
Well that's it for the two "test" models. I will be trying to make the models as close to crusade era as I can with what I have and with minimal effort. As I finish more ill post them. Take care

For Prospero! For Magnus! For the Emperor!

Alright. The first attempt at this was done with a tactical marine and the second attempt was with a Terminator. I have since done more research into bits for the embellishments on the helmets and will be doing a bits order for that and some other things for the legion. But for now i just used plasticard and cut rectangularish blocks and glued them to the head. The end result is something that looks kinda funny up close but looks fine when set down and looked at. gets the point across. Alright so up first is the tactical marine.

What you first will notice is that its influenced by the ccg art available in the visions of heresy books. Now those crusade era buffs out there will most likely criticize the legs the bolter and maybe the backpack. As well as the chest plate maybe. So before anyone (assuming someone will read this) comments on that let me first say I am aware and I did this for a few reasons:
1- I only have 6 of the older plastic bolters and I dont quite want to use them just yet.Same thing with the back packs. I have plans for them. Also I dont want to convert the standard bolter. Its a bolter it gets the point across.
2- The chest plate gets the point across of being older and non Mk7.
3- The legs are because for the life of me I cannot find any older looking legs that I know I have and I do not want to go through the process of Green stuffing the legs (mostly because im really bad at it). The next tactical marine im working is using a chaos leg so that will help get the leg armor look.

The head embellishment is just plasticard. I know the hole is not center. I wanted it to look damaged because it amuses me.

I want to add this was my First free hand work for the Legions symbol. Its not bad for first time and im sure will get better over time.

Alright that is long enough so I will post the Terminator in its own post

All is Dust..

my painting/photography disclaimer

Hey everyone.... I just wanted to state that i dont have a proper photographing area so do not expect great photos yet. Im working on adapting but itll take some time. I also am not a great painter. I paint for what I consider table top quality. Basically I define that as having at least 3 colors on a model and that you can tell from across the table what they represent. For the picture above its plainly obvious to me and due to the flash/ lightining of my photos they actually do look better in person.
Coming soon my first attempts at Pre-heresy/heresy era Thousand Sons.

Greetings

Hello all. I figured it is about time i make a contribution to the 40k community in some small insignifigant way. I am from Long Island New York and my primary army would be the Dark Angels Space Marines. I also have a small force of Tau the beginnings of Chaos Thousand Sons and I am currently working on Pre-Heresy/ Heresy Era Thousand Sons. I also have random side projects in different stages of on hold. So while Dark Angels are my core i will be posting my WIP of armies as I work on them. I will try to get some shots of my Dark Angels up as well especially as I add to it. More to come.
